February 18th, 2022 — Patch Rundown (Patch Notes & Design Thoughts)

NOTE: THIS CURRENT PATCH RUNDOWN IS STILL TENTATIVE AND IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE UNTIL THE PATCH GOES LIVE. TREAT THIS AS AN EARLY PATCH PREVIEW FOR NOW.
UPDATE #1:
UNFORTUNATELY, WE FOUND A COUPLE OF BUGS DURING TESTING SO PATCH WILL BE PUSHED TO MONDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2022.

So throughout the Lunar New Years event, we’ve gathered ALOT of internal information on alot of player behavior and certain trends that we’re seeing. This patch should hopefully address many more of the concerns around RNG and it’s impact in the game.

Patch Rundown by Ardoyn:

RNG balance patch round 2. In our first anti-RNG patch, we definitely took out alot of the major pain points for players and as a result, much of the other RNG aspects in the game became major complaints as well. While we are working on some systems to alleviate spawn RNG, these take considerably longer than a simple balance patch and we have alot of other content right around the corner as well… does anyone smell smoke?

For now, let’s discuss this week’s patch.

SPAWNING CHANGES:
  • NEW — Non-Guaranteed spawn rolls have significantly increased chances of spawning higher tier Venari compared to guaranteed rolls.
  • Tier 3 and Legendary Venari Spawn odds have been significantly increased on Tier 3 baits.

So last time we addressed the concern that T2 and T3 baits were “less” valuable to use and after increasing the amount of guaranteed rolls, we saw some player behavior where people would only bait until the guaranteed rolls have been used up before ending their bait timer. This change should help incentivize players to wait out their entire duration as well as give an extra bump to seeing those last second increased spawns. With some of the power shift into the combo resets (see below), we can revert the spawn odds nerf that we had in place before and even give a little extra on the top.

MINI-GAME CHANGES:
  • NEW — Failure actions are now remembered
  • NEW — Base capture chance has been removed.
  • NEW — Capture chance can now reach 100% for all tiers.
  • NEW — Perfect Indicator to reflect 100% capture odds.

  • Increased capture chance percentage given for each correct, passed answer.
  • NEW — Failing a correct answer now gives one third of a correct, passed answer’s capture chance.
  • NEW — Three actions are required before the Capture option becomes available for Tier 1 Venari.
  • NEW — Three actions are required before the Capture option becomes available for Tier 2 Venari.
  • NEW — Five actions are required before the Capture option becomes available for Tier 3 Venari.

During the Winter and Lunar New Year events, we saw alot of early captures be done purely by relying on base capture chance (fail all answers, get 2 strikes, and get the capture). While this is really rewarding if it happens to you, this isn’t exactly the gameplay we want to promote and we know many of you are frustrated when this happens to others.

So now, you are required to take 3/3/5 (Tier 1/Tier 2/Tier 3 respectively) actions before you can attempt to capture, thus forcing you to answer a minimum of actions correctly before striking out. However, each correct answer will give you a bump to your capture odds regardless of pass/fail on the answer itself. Nailing everything absolutely flawlessly will result in a 100% or Perfect capture odds, guaranteeing the capture.

COMBO SYSTEM CHANGES:
  • NEW — Combo Depreciation: Combos will now reset at a faster rate, ultimately leading to 1 capture per combo reset.
  • NEW — Combos Depreciation for Tier 2: 4x captures, combo reset, 2x captures, combo reset, 1x capture/reset.
  • NEW —Combos Depreciation for Tier 3: 2x captures, combo reset, 1x captures/reset.

This is where the power shifted towards. Currently it’s every 10x and 3x (for Tier 2 and Tier 3 respectively) for combo resets. This led to extreme farmability of the Tier 2’s and even allowed for very consistent T3 captures if your spawn luck was good enough. Having buffed the spawns and minigame, we feel like being able to overly consistent farm T2/T3’s can be tuned down. However, as long as you have the combo ratio, you should quickly be able to figure out the new combos after a combo reset.

END OF THE FESTIVAL:
  • All Lunar New Years bait is on 50% sale until the end of the event.

This buff is specifically targeted to help out the Round 2 bounties and give users a last minute chance to capture some exclusive Jin’Hu before the event ends.

NEW FEATURES:
  • NEW — Ayena’s Tawarin Mountain art has been added.
  • NEW — Base Passes will become claimable with the patch.
  • NEW — Pass owners can now turn off borrow requests.
  • NEW — General UI improvements.
  • NEW — Animations can now be played for each individual Venari in your collection without relying on the master animation button.

BUG FIXES:
  • Fixed a bug that caused page crashes when entering expedition in certain cases.
  • Fixed a bug that caused a page crash when the pass owner doesn’t have a LoV account.

That wraps up my Patch Rundown, I know it was ALOT to go over and read but I hope it gave alot of information and cleared up alot of the reasoning behind these changes.
