NOTE: THIS CURRENT PATCH RUNDOWN IS STILL TENTATIVE AND IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE UNTIL THE PATCH GOES LIVE. TREAT THIS AS AN EARLY PATCH PREVIEW FOR NOW.
WEN PATCH? — PATCH IS CURRENTLY SCHEDULED FOR WEDNESDAY OR THURSDAY RELEASE.

Patch Rundown by Ardoyn

First off, sorry, this is NOT the leveling patch. During some internal testing and feedback, we’ve recognized a few additional stress points (scholar double-taxation was a major one) in the current iteration of the marketplace and are actively working to remedy those through creative game design. As a result, a few adjustments to the burning/leveling needs to be made before they ship.

However, we WILL be going over quite a bit of Marketplace/Leveling systems in this Patch Rundown as a primer for their release.

In other news, this patch also ships with a TON of amazing work by our developers. Their improvements to the backend of the game should bring huge performance boosts and stability for many users.

Pretty sure this is the LONGEST run-down we’ve had so I recommend getting a drink and some snacks before settling in. I’ll wait. Ready? Great, let’s get started.

BURNING ADJUSTMENTS:
  • NEW — Burning has been renamed to “RELEASING”

Yeah, a quick section devoted to this important clarification. Many of you have expressed immediate concerns at the mere thought of burning your precious Venari. The narrative team wants me to assure you that Venari are indeed burn resistant (yes, even the leafy and grassy Nature variants) and that Venari are instead “released” when you release them from your inventory. There will be a narrative lore post for this soon, so stay tuned.

(Lore readers rejoice, the drought will soon be over!)

  • NEW — Shards have been removed from the game. Players will be compensated Kores at a 20x Shard:1x Kore conversion rate.
  • Releasing a Tier 2 Venari now has a very small chance of giving a Kore.
  • NEW — Releasing a Tier 3 Venari will still retain the 100% rate for minimum 1x Kores, however will now have additional odds for dropping 3x Kores, 6x Kores, and 12x Kores.
  • LEVELING PREVIEW— Kores will be replacing Shards for all their associated costs in the leveling system (level unlocks, etc…)

Okay so yeah this is a big change. Before you get your pitchforks at the removal of shards, hear me out. In many of our testing iterations and models, Shards ended up with a very consistent criticism of being “redundant” or an “extra currency”. As Shards also were causing an imbalance on the Tier 2 Venari reward curve, we have made the decision to remove Shards entirely and replace their usages in the leveling system with Kores.

To compensate players, we’ve increased the average income amount of Kores and have gone with a very generous 20 shard:1 Kore conversion rate. If we find later on that Kore income is still very limited, we will come back to adjust the drop percentages.

ADJUSTMENTS FOR CAPTURING VENARI BEYOND THE CAP:
  • Players will no longer receive shards/Kores from capturing Venari that exceed the cap of the population. They will still receive essence however (this is important!).

While this looks like a nerf in the current live Alpha Season, it’s important to remember that Season 1 is right around the corner. We have always believed that capturing a Venari beyond the cap is an additional part of the information game of knowing the current population and that receiving essence instead of the Venari was already a tremendous reward. Receiving “release” materials when you technically didn’t have to release a Venari from your ownership didn’t feel quite right either and as a result, we have removed them from the reward pool.

MARKETPLACE/LEVELING PRIMER:

wen mp? First, let me go through how we expect the Marketplace will work:

  • Whenever a player receives essence, it will be in the form of pure genus essence (this is the cube icon that we currently have).
  • In order to MARKET this essence, players will have to convert pure genus essence into refined genus essence at a 70% conversion rate.
  • For Scholars/Managers — The scholar will receive pure genus essence at the rate of their agreed allocation and the manager will receive refined genus essence (with the conversion cost included) at the rate of their agreed allocation. Any Kores will also be split amongst the scholar and the manager at the same rate.

So to give an example very quickly:

The agreement between a Scholar and their Manager is 60% Scholar/40% Manager. The Scholar releases a Tier 3 Laticus which results in 12x Kores and 3,500 Pure Stiola essence. The Scholar would receive 7.2x Kores and 2,100 Pure Stiola essence. The Manager would receive the remaining 4.8 Kores and 980 Refined Stiola essence.
  • STILL WIP — Venari sold on the Marketplace will be level 1 only. The levels they accumulated will be stripped at 70% efficiency into refined genus essence and returned back to the seller. The Venari will keep it’s “earned” level metadata (perks and such) that will be automatically unlocked when the Venari reaches the appropriate level again (see below for more leveling information!).

This is the work-in-progress solution (and we’re still exploring MANY other avenues and are very open to feedback/suggestions on this topic) for the double-taxation issue for scholars:

When a Scholar splits their essence with their manager and then uses their own essence to level their Venari… and then sells that Venari, how is that split with their manager? If it’s split normally, a scholar actually gets taxed on their essence TWICE and we have worked very hard to create a solution to prevent this and honestly why we went to all this trouble of changing leveling/marketplace this week.

We want to ensure that all players have an equal and fair opportunity at playing and progressing through Legends of Venari. The following systems are all designed carefully with this consideration in mind.

And now to answer the main question you’re thinking of: why pure essence and refined essence? Leveling preview coming at you now…

  • Leveling a Venari requires either PURE or REFINED genus essence. However, at a certain point (depending on tier), your Venari will NO longer accept refined genus essence. You will then need to use pure genus essence to level your Venari further.
  • **SUBJECT TO CHANGE** — In order to level a Venari to level 100, the CURRENT estimated essence costs are: ~500k for a Tier 1, ~650k for a Tier 2, and ~790k for a Tier 3. These are just current work-in-progress numbers so they may change before the leveling update.
  • Kores are NOT tradeable on the marketplace.

We have always made our stance very clear on paying to progress in Legends of Venari and this is our solution to both prevent full swipe2win as well as rewarding our most dedicated and devoted players.

Not only will you receive a 30% deduction on your pure genus essence in converting it to refined genus essence, you also MUST use pure genus essence to continue progressing your Venari beyond a certain point. This also should help incentivize players to level their own Venari with 100% efficiency and ensure that scholars have their own chance of keeping up at progression. Furthermore, Kores are NOT tradeable, meaning that to unlock perks and level caps will require players to earn Kores themselves.

Don’t worry, we’re not done yet with this preview. With how Shards have been removed, this is how we expect Kores to function in leveling:

  • Every 20 levels (20, 40, 60, 80, 100), your Venari will hit a level cap. In order to be able to progress beyond that point, it will cost a small amount of Kores to unlock the cap. The hard cap is level 100.
  • Every 25 levels (25, 50, 75, 100), your Venari will be eligible to acquire a perk at the cost of some Kores. MINOR PERKS are available at level 25 and 75 while MAJOR PERKS are available at level 50 and 100.
  • Perks will vary in terms of effectiveness being Minor or Major as well as vary from Genus/Species of Venari. For example, certain perks may only roll on certain species of Venari.
  • Every 25 levels (25, 50, 75, 100), your Venari will be eligible to acquire additional MILESTONE POINTS for a few Kores. These are stat attribute points that you can assign to your Venari AS YOU WISH and help optimize your roll to be the best it can be.
  • Rerolling Perks/Milestone Points will cost additional Kores so be careful at spending too much here!

For the Vocari reading this Patch Rundown, much of this may seem familiar from what we’ve gone over at recent Vocari Hang-Outs and we’ve worked hard to keep the system the same despite removing Shards entirely. While I can’t give exact numbers, the current ballpark number for amount of Kores required to fully unlock the potential of a level 100 Venari (Tier 3) is around 60x Kores (**SUBJECT TO CHANGE**).

Unfortunately, I can’t reveal any perks right no- wait, who put this bush here? Let me get rid of it.

1*pEgbgWYxipWWYlEdb_guEg.pngBUSH REVEAL — Activate to reveal the Venari hiding in the bush during the Expedition Preparation screen.

As I was saying, while I can’t reveal any perks right now, the systems where you utilize the perks won’t be around until Season 1 unfortunately. But I can reveal how one of them currently will work.

  • Venari Roster — Add up to 4 Venari to your Roster
  • Roster Spot 1 — Level 25 Perk Activation (only the level 25 perk on the Venari equipped in this spot will be active)
  • Roster Spot 2— Level 50 Perk Activation (only the level 50 perk on the Venari equipped in this spot will be active)
  • Roster Spot 3— Level 75 Perk Activation (only the level 75 perk on the Venari equipped in this spot will be active)
  • Roster Spot 4— Level 100 Perk Activation (only the level 100 perk on the Venari equipped in this spot will be active)

And that’s all for the primer for now, more details to come at the next Vocari Hang-Out and future Patch Rundowns!
