Hi Uni Fam, As crypto winter sets in it’s important to discuss how we plan to manage our DAO treasury. In short, we plan to passively deploy assets to earn low risk yield. This will grow our treasury value with an eye towards supporting and maintaining the CU Ecosystem indefinitely. Upfront, we plan to establish a sister Gnosis Safe on ETH Mainnet. While we are huge supporters of Polygon, it is important to acknowledge that it is still a sidechain and there are security tradeoffs that come with that. In an effort to not put all of our eggs in one basket we’ve focused on yield strategies available on ETH Mainnet. Based on our research we have outlined the following strategies and would like feedback from the community prior to implementation. wETH Holdings - Bridge 2000 wETH to ETH Mainnet Gnosis Safe. Convert ~1000 wETH to stETH Deploy wETH and stETH to Curve. Stake Curve LP Tokens in Convex. Yield ~ 7% a. stETH b. CRV c. CVX d. LDO Earned CRV and CVX Rewards will be re-staked in Convex. Above we focus on compounding our CRV/CVX rewards via Convex and selling LDO for ETH. Rewards from staking earned CRV/CVX will be sold for ETH. Given we don’t plan to touch our ETH holdings for 2–3 years we feel there’s a unique opportunity to deploy these reserves to earn more ETH. We can even take advantage of the delta between stETH and ETH on Curve right now to effectively purchase stETH at a ~4% discount. We expect a protracted bear market through 2023 and this strategy allows us to build up our ETH holdings with a multi-year outlook. USDC Holdings - Bridge $15M USDC to ETH Mainnet Gnosis Safe. Enter Balancer Boosted Pool Yield ~ 10% a. Stablecoin Fees b. BAL Purchase veBAL with Rewards Stake veBAL Vote with veBAL to direct gauge weight to RBW/wETH pool. Harvest BAL rewards from staking veBAL and LP position in RBW/wETH pool. a. 70% of BAL will be sold for USDC. b. 30% of BAL will be sold for veBAL to maintain voting weight. With this strategy we have two primary focuses. The first is to harvest BAL from veBAL selling it for USDC. The second order strategy here is to drive additional rewards to the RBW/wETH pool as an extra incentive for stakers. This begins our first step into the Balancer Wars! Anyone familiar with the Curve wars will see a similar strategy above. Based on our modeling we think a modest purchase of BAL (ie. $500k) coupled with the rewards from the Boosted Balancer Pool will allow us to provide additional BAL rewards to LPs in our wETH / RBW pool. We anticipate these rewards to be at least 10% APR on top of the existing RBW rewards. This could go much higher if the value of BAL increases. In addition, the yield collected by the Treasury’s LP position in the pool will be sold for USDC. The opportunity to be an early participant in the Balancer Wars during a bear market could prove very fruitful. Given our multi-year time horizon, it is our belief that a focus on earning yield via proven protocols (Curve, Convex, Balancer) gives us the optimal risk / reward profile. Governance — Phase 1.5 Hello, Unifam! With twelve weeks since the initial launch of the Governance Phase 1 post, and with the approval of the CUIP-04 — Governance Council Installation, we believe that now is the perfect time for us to iterate and supplement. Upfront, we acknowledge that building a self-governing community is a monumental undertaking — one that we hope we are all willing to experience together. Our hope is for our structure to evolve as we learn and grow together as a community. Let’s now look at the second iteration of the Governance structure! We’ll continue to use two different platforms for all Governance-related activities — our forum and Snapshot. Apart from these two, we’ll also start using KryptoSign for the intermediary steps needed to check the community’s position (ex. the Temperature Checks, Motion of No Confidence or Governance Council Nominations). This is temporary as we seek to find better forum integration. As before, we’ll be using the forum for all the discussions necessary to bring proposals to Snapshot for voting. We acknowledge that Governance systems based on the results of votes on Snapshot require human input to be implemented. This usually requires an operations team that will coordinate the implementation of the proposal, and contributors or development teams who will perform the work needed to implement the content of the proposal. During the early stages of building our DAO, the Laguna Games team will perform the task of coordinating with the contributors or development teams who’d come forward with proposals through our Governance Facilitator. Upfront, we’d also like to address two limitations in the governance system. While holding sRBW allows users to write and vote on proposals, the DAO/sRBW holders cannot, however, volunteer the work of another contributor or development team without their consent nor can the DAO/sRBW holders request the execution of proposal that may go against foregoing laws or existing legal obligations. Let’s now go through the steps one by one. Here’s an overview of the process. IDEAS Just like before, this is still how we birth all Crypto Unicorns Improvement Proposals! Posts in this section of our forum may still be written in free form by any member of the community. We’ve noticed that the Ideas section tends to be more active than the Draft Proposal section of our forum. To help community members move forward in the proposal process, we’d like to propose the following changes: A post in the Ideas section will stay open for as long as the community is actively engaging in the discussion. A post will automatically be closed when no new activities are recorded for 5 consecutive days. A representative from Laguna Games (known as the Facilitator) will contact authors of posts with consistent active positive engagement and encourage them to write their proposals in the Draft Proposal section of the forum. It’s important to note that any assistance we will provide in writing the proposal is not an endorsement of the idea nor the proposal. We believe that in the beginning, it is our duty to guide our unicorn frens forward. Ideas may be tagged with the following categories: Game Features, Ecosystem Fund Grants, DAO Operations, Just for Fun. DRAFT PROPOSAL Similar to the initial iteration, when an idea is ready to be proposed, a Draft Proposal should be written. We still ask that people use the same format, so all proposals have a similar structure. We also believe that this format allows for transparency, which will help everyone make an informed decision. Prescribed format for improvement proposals: Name — Brief Name and CUIP-00X “Tag” Summary — Two or three sentences describing the proposal. Motivation — Describe to the community why this proposal is necessary. Details — Dive into the specifics of what is being proposed. Indicate what the DAO needs to implement. Conclusion — Outline the voting choices and any relevant details around cost and timelines. Apart from improvement proposals, a Draft Proposal may also be written when filing a Motion of No Confidence to review a Governance Council member’s performance. Prescribed format for a Motion of No Confidence (as approved in CUIP-04) Title — Motion to Review a Council Member’s Performance Summary — Two or three sentences describing what the review is for. Name of the Council Member for review — Indicate the Discord handle of the Council Member. Rationale for the motion — Describe why the community needs to review the performance of the said Council Member. Details — Dive into the details of the events that lead to the motion (including dates and links if necessary). Conclusion — Summarize the information presented and outline the voting choices. The process during this phase is as follows: Posts in the Draft Proposal section stay open for at least 5 days. The Facilitator will add the CUIP code and tag upon approval of the Draft Proposal. The implementing team, vendor, or contractor will post an Impact Report in response to the Draft Proposal. This is applicable when the author is not part of the implementing body. If the post receives a lot of engagement and if the community sentiment is majorly positive, the Draft Proposal will be forwarded to the Governance Council for final approval before going to Snapshot. This will be reviewed during the bi-monthly Governance Council meeting. A Temperature Check will be conducted if the community sentiment is divided. TEMPERATURE CHECK While we’ve so far agreed on the first few proposals, we do understand that different voices will emerge, and we need to know how to proceed in scenarios where community sentiment isn’t clear. The Facilitator will initiate a Temperature Check on Draft Proposals where the community sentiment is divided. For a Temperature Check to be successful, the number of participants should reach or exceed 10% sRBW holder participation. The Temperature Check poll will stay open for 5 days. The Draft Proposal will also remain open for 5 more days during this period. We expect the author and the community to actively discuss and, hopefully, find a consensus during this period. Proposals that pass the Temperature Check will be forwarded to the Governance Council for further review. GOVERNANCE COUNCIL APPROVAL The Governance Council members are elected as outlined in the approved CUIP-04 — Governance Council Installation. Our hope is to enlist the help of elected community members to ensure that proposals cater to the overall good of the community and project. Here’s how we envision this step. Proposals with mostly positive reception and proposals that passed the optional Temperature Check will be reviewed by the Governance Council to determine if the Draft Proposal is ready to go live on Snapshot. The Governance Council will convene to review proposals on a bi-monthly basis. The Governance Council may reject a proposal if they identify content or risk that may harm the well-being of the project or the community. If this happens, the Governance Council will publish a report detailing the result of the deliberations, their recommendations, and their positions regarding the topic. SNAPSHOT VOTING Similar to the first iteration, only the LG team can submit a proposal to Snapshot in the initial stages of the process. When the Governance Council approves a Draft Proposal, the Facilitator will post it on Snapshot so that the community may vote on it. Each voting period will last 5 days. For a proposal to pass, it must meet a quorum of 33% of sRBW. Once the voting period is over, we’ll record the result in the “Live Proposals” section and start putting them into action. IMPLEMENTATION Once a Crypto Unicorns Improvement Proposal gets passed after a Snapshot vote, we intend to continually coordinate with the associated contributors, contractors or development teams to ensure that the agreed-upon proposal specifications are met. Throughout the lifetime of the proposal, the Facilitator will have monthly check-ins with the associated implementers for all approved CUIPs. If the associated contributors, contractors or development teams consistently fail to deliver the agreed-upon specifications, the Facilitator will publish a report on our official SNS channels to inform the community so that we can once again collectively decide how to move forward. Hello, Unifam! It’s been a month since launch and with most major issues addressed, our development team seeks to further improve the experience for everyone. While the team is hard at work resolving known issues and finding other possible unreported issues, we feel that involving all stakeholders in the process will enable us to collectively take ownership of what we’re trying to build together, while also rewarding the community for their efforts. Enter the Bug Bounty Program. Let’s dive right into it! The Scope and Limitations of the CU Bug Bounty Program Before we get going, we’re going to fill you in on the extent of this program. The Bug Bounty Program encompasses only issues relating to the game. This covers in-game usability issues and official websites such as the RBW Staking website, and the Rewards claim site, among others. The team will diagnose the severity of the issue and assign it to an appropriate tier. Each tier has a corresponding reward in line with the severity of the issue. What is considered a Novel Issue? Issues that haven’t been announced in the official Discord community Issues that are not connected to a prior issue. Who is considered the original reporter? Here’s a checklist to help you figure out if you’re the first reporter. Note however that the original reporter will only be determined once the issue has been diagnosed. You must be the first player to report to Zendesk about a particular issue that falls within the scope and limitations of the Program. You must be a member of the Discord community. You must not currently be on the running Blacklist and; You comply with the Bug Bounty Ticket Format. What is the Bug Bounty Ticket Format? Simply put, this ensures that the bugs submitted have all the necessary information to proceed with the investigation. To finally cross the last item off your original reporter checklist, review your bug bounty report and make sure it complies with the following guidelines: Subject: A brief title for the issue Discord handle Wallet Address A brief explanation of the issue encountered The general troubleshooting steps the player has tried An accompanying image or video of the issue Reproduction steps for the issue If applicable, the transaction hash If applicable, the console logs What is the procedure of the Program? The procedures can still be amended to adjust to suggestions and findings of the program. The player submits a ticket containing complete information as indicated by the Bug Bounty Ticket format to the Bug Bounty Program Zendesk Form. The ticket is received by the admins of Zendesk. The issue is diagnosed by the team. The issue is categorized under a Tier. The player who first submitted a ticket with complete information will be identified by the team. That player is made aware that they are the original reporter. The original reporter will be rewarded with a tier-appropriate reward at the end of the following month to the wallet address they submitted the ticket with. With the implementation of the Bug Bounty Program, we recognize that our players are vital to improving the game. Hi Unifam! Last week Nat Elison wrote a wonderful article on Crypto Unicorns in which he discussed his thoughts on the game as well as our tokenomics. While he largely gave a positive review his analysis of RBW fell short. To his credit, the whitepaper only gives a bare outline and we’ve predominantly circulated updates and details via AMAs. Our hope is this document can be a reference for people today as well as new entrants into our economy in the future. Why not burn RBW? Nat suggested that game token value can only be derived via a deflationary mechanism. Nat’s evaluation was based solely on token value whereas we approached the RBW token in the context of game design and community growth. We designed the RBW tokenomics to support the long-term growth of the game. Burning a finite-supply token is a considerably less productive use of tokens vs leveraging current demand to further bootstrap the DAO treasury for the long haul. Today, players are able earn a lot of RBW by selling Berries and other items in the Marketplace, spurring them to buy seeds, without much impact on the buy/sell RBW prices due to too much liquidity in the RMP. Between our DAU increasing, a more finely-tuned RMP, and more RBW utility long-term through new features, we are confident that we can sustain and improve the accessibility of RBW over time. RBW Inflation Concerns It is correct that we plan to grow the circulating supply from roughly 50M to 200M in the first year. This is typical of projects in the space that want to match the circulating supply of tokens to the growth in DAUs. Let’s break down our circulating supply and explain why we chose this distribution strategy. Public Sale - In the whitepaper we reserved 40M tokens to get our players started. Given our highly successful Copper Launch Auction we sold less than anticipated — about half. The remaining 20MM RBW tokens are held in the DAO treasury. It’s up to the DAO to decide how to use those tokens. Staking - The reward rate of stakers is not intended to zero out dilution. In fact, the primary purpose of staking is to reward players for participating and voting on governance. Rewards earned can then be leveraged in-game to earn further RBW via a mixture of strategy and skill. Clever players can utilize a compounding strategy by staking in-game rewards. This is fundamental to our strategy as it incentivizes gameplay over passive staking. Ultimately, this has a strong effect on the circulating supply which we’ve seen already with over 28MM RBW currently staked and high voting participation. This means over 63% of the circulating supply has been staked to participate in governance! We specifically designed our staking system with a timelock. The longer you are willing to stake the higher your voting weight (similar to veCRV). Ultimately, this aligns voting rights (and staking rewards) with those who want to participate in the long term future of the DAO. Play & Earn - This is the primary distribution mechanism for RBW. Inflating supply to active players based on their strategy and in-game skill is a fundamental tenet of the space. Accessibility scales with new entrants and the whole community is incentivized to onboard new players and scale our shared economy. The CU treasury needs a natural, bi-directional flow of RBW to create balance and to sustain the long-term game economy. This bi-directional flow is the fundamental flywheel of our player owned economy. Given our place in the market, our roadmap in relation to our peers, and the depth of our game economy, we are confident in the community’s ability to meaningfully grow the game over the next year of building. DAO Treasury Speaking of economic depth… let’s talk about treasury inflows! To date the treasury has received a net inflow of over 600k RBW. This is the delta between what was spent vs earned since the game launched. This is even with a temporary imbalance given lower berry utility which is about to be resolved with the launch of evolution! When designing tokenomics, we think 5–10 years into the future. Eventually the Staking/Play & Earn pools will run dry. So how do we distribute RBW after that happens? The answer is from net treasury inflows of RBW during the first 5 years. Importantly, inflows to the treasury will not be redistributed until the other pools run dry. (A quick note: Our CM team wasn’t correct in Discord when they said these inflows could be distributed anytime). Thus Nat’s claim that we basically have infinite inflation on RBW is incorrect. The Treasury operates as a federal reserve to the CU economy. In the first CU whitepaper we had specific inflation targets that can only be changed via a DAO proposal. What you have above is our experiment in token distribution. It’s our belief that tokens should predominantly flow to active participants who then have the opportunity to compound their return via staking and participation in governance. For better or for worse we continue to lean in maximally to the idea that player-owned economies and IP will be the future. Rainbow Token Marketplace It’s really important to understand why we chose to utilize RBW as the underlying medium of exchange within our economy. Leveraging the Rainbow Marketplace AMM with soft currencies paired with RBW is a first of its kind in the industry. We chose this design to create further utility beyond just governance. Early on, especially as we progressively decentralize, we want there to be high utility for the token. RBW as a Speed Up All items in the Rainbow Marketplace AMM (RMP) can be obtained by players through the gameplay Loops — currently Farming, Crafting, and Gathering. Purchasing items from the RMP with RBW is a way for players to accelerate the rate at which they can progress their Unicorns and Lands. This is very similar to how speedups work in a wide variety of F2P games. We can afford to allow players to buy items directly from the RMP because of the economy’s depth. Between constructing/upgrading up to 10 buildings on each land across 9 lands, saving UNIM and Berries for Breeds and Evolutions, and using Berries for Gathering and Energy restoration, players need a ton of items. Given the finite amount of RBW in circulation, players will not be able to afford simply buying their way to the top. RBW as a Fee We charge a small RBW fee for actions that result in permanent utility creation or improvement. We currently see this with Breeding and Evolution. With Breeding, players pay a small RBW fee to create a baby Unicorn NFT that can be used in Farming. With Evolution, players pay an RBW fee to expand on the NFT’s utility in the game. Future Utility-Improving actions with an RBW Fee include: RBW costs for Shadowcorn hatching and ascension RBW costs for crafting Unicorn equipment for the RPG Battle loop Crafting Land props that give bonuses In addition, there is an RBW Marketplace Fee anytime a player sells an Item Bundle to the RMP. Just as players pay an RBW fee to expand or create utility, players pay a fee when earning by selling to the RMP. RBW as an Entry Fee Certain Gameplay loops will have RBW costs in order for a player to use a Unicorn to play. Gameplay requiring RBW will typically have better rewards than gameplay that doesn’t require RBW. Instances of using RBW as a special play token include: Certain Jousting tournaments/events Certain Races/special Race events Special RPG Battle events Special Neighborhood events Despite over 1M in RBW spent to date players have barely scratched the economic depth of our game. This is extremely positive as it signals a strong and robust economy awaits especially as new Land and Unicorn supply begin to hit the market in the coming months. From there we continue to add depth and layers with each Battle loop giving us more and more levers to tune, balance, and maintain the economy indefinitely. Governance is more than a meme! It’s important to reinforce that Crypto Unicorns already has one of the most active DAOs in the entire Web3 gaming space. To date, we’ve seen active participation of over 40% of all sRBW in each Snapshot vote. In addition, the team and investors have yet to vote on a proposal, and we continue to lean fully into the idea that we’ve built a truly community-owned economy and IP. We are just months into a multi-year process by which we progressively decentralize decision-making and control over the DAO. While many believe this to be a pipe dream we find it to be one of the most fundamentally important opportunities in the space. After all, why would you purchase mutable NFTs if you don’t have control over the long-term direction of a project? There is value in a governance token that actually lets people… govern. We recognize that many projects in the space have yet to even activate governance and thus it’s healthy to scrutinize which projects actually have real governance. We are currently in the first phase of the DAO. From a corporate structure perspective, the RBW tokens and the governance proposals derive from the authority imbued in the DAO by Laguna Games. Under this structure, the DAO has contributed dozens of ideas and passed three important improvements to the community. This is a start but we want a truly independent DAO. In Phase 2, coming this year, we will create an independent entity called Crypto Unicorns DAO. This will be a separate organization with its own bylaws operated at the direction of the sRBW holders with the mission of supporting the advancement of the CU community. It will do this through grants from the Ecosystem Fund to third-party developers, contributors, and community members who make meaningful improvements to the CU community. Phase 3 and beyond will come later to support our multi-year effort to transition to a truly independent DAO that is responsible for directing and nurturing the project for the long term. Game and Community Growth So far we feel our approach is working well. Hi Uni Fam, What a hell of a last two weeks it has been…. I want to start this note with a huge thank you to both the team and community for working together to rapidly resolve many of the LiveOps fires that cropped up. Now that the vast majority of issues have been resolved we have finally had a moment to breathe, take stock, and plan. Here are some high-level notes on the plan over the next 6 weeks: Ongoing LiveOps Issues: To date, we’ve focused on resolving issues based on the number of reported cases. While this has worked to fix 90% of the tickets reported we are now left with a bunch of edge-case scenarios. Most of these are server-related issues which mean we have to balance time spent resolving issues with ongoing feature work and development. Going forward we are carving out time each day to address LiveOps issues. We will be prioritizing based on how long a player has had the issue and work our way from there. Upcoming Release Plan: QoL Polish / Bugs — May 19th Evolution Launch — May 26th Shadowcorn Hatch Event — June 23rd Next Feature Release — June 30th Lootboxes Land Vending Machine Tech Debt & Hardening QoL Polish The above plan outlines a shift away from asap LiveOps patches to a normal monthly release cadence. The breakneck speed at which we’ve been operating has clearly caused us to release a subpar product. This transition will allow us to run our normal sprint cadence while having optimal amounts of QA time prior to each release. Roadmap: Going forward the community can expect 1 release each month. We are still in progress on updating our 2022 roadmap based on discussions from our offsite last week. Players will see a renewed focus on Shadowcorns vs Unicorn gameplay and social features like neighborhoods. We believe a continued mix of on-chain minigames combined with in-game events and feature releases will keep things fresh and exciting. We will be sharing this roadmap in the coming weeks so stay tuned! UnicornSwap - Despite the short-term fixes that are in progress to update metadata states we know there is a need to move to our own marketplace. To date, OpenSea has extracted over $1M USD from our community via their 2.5% fee and provided very little value. I’m excited by the opportunity to work with our long-time partners at Moonstream to build a custom marketplace for our growing community. Be on the lookout for a draft proposal here soon and then based on feedback and comments we’ll look to push that to a snapshot vote. I understand the continued pushback on the 1% fee to the Moonstream DAO. It is my belief that we should not evaluate this as a typical Web2 vendor/SaaS relationship. In web3 I think it’s important to maximally align incentives over the long term while ensuring downside risk is protected and no rent-seeking occurs. Hi Unicorn Fam! As game dynamics change, features must also be redesigned to promote continued utility. During the early stages of development Golden Tickets were designed to simply be an amplifier for loot box rewards. Given that Lootboxes and Golden Tickets won’t be a “normal” item that players obtain / use on a regular cadence, our Design Team has been hard at work determining ways to separate the two items. We are excited to now share the new functionality for Golden Tickets! Golden Tickets will now act as the Medium of Exchange on our Golden Ticket Store! The Golden Ticket Store is expected to go LIVE later this year and will run “flash sales,” allowing users to exchange Golden Tickets for Lootboxes, Keystones, UNIM, RBW, and MORE! Each Flash Sale will occur at a random time and will possess a limited quantity of 3 different items. Once each item’s stock has been depleted, the Flash Sale will end and players must wait for the next one to begin! Summary- What is a Golden Ticket? A Golden Ticket is an ERC-1155 token that can be purchased/sold on Opensea. How Can I Obtain a Golden Ticket? Golden Tickets will currently be earnable through community events, in-game events, & on-chain events. In the future, there will also be a very small chance at obtaining Golden Tickets via gathering. What Can I Use a Golden Ticket for? Players can exchange Golden Tickets via the Golden Ticket Store for CU Token/NFTs, such as Lootboxes, Keystones, UNIM, RBW, & MORE!! When Will This Feature be Ready? This new feature will be slated for development later this year, at which point players will be able to put their Golden Tickets to use! Hello Uni Fam! With the launch of CU drawing near, it is now time to formally announce the Pioneer Program! This program will span over four weeks and will aim to achieve two primary goals, reward loyal landholders and provide weekly packages of seeds/materials to help kickstart their operations. Without any further ado, let’s dive into how this program will work- How do I qualify? To enter the program, players must “lock” their land plots into CU prior to May 8th at 00:00 UTC. Players must keep their land plots “locked” in order to qualify for each week’s rewards. Land plots “unlocked” during this program will lose their eligibility and will be excluded from the remaining airdrops. For example, if a player locked 4 land plots into CU prior to May 7th, unlocks one land plot on May 15th, and then another land plot on May 28th, the player would receive the following land rewards. Week 1: 4 Land Reward Packages Week 2: 3 Land Reward Packages (one land plot removed during this week) Week 3: 3 Land Reward Packages Week 4: 2 Land Reward Packages (one land plot removed during this week) Note that only Land Plots locked into CU prior to May 7th will be eligible for Pioneer Program rewards. Land plots entered into the game subsequent to May 7th and land plots locked prior to May 7th, unlocked, and then re-locked into CU will not be eligible for Pioneer Program rewards. Important Dates Each week, we will take a snapshot to determine the addresses/land plots that have been locked since May 7th. The addresses/land plots included on this list will be eligible for that week’s rewards. Are You Ready!? The time has arrived…the day you all have been waiting for!!! We’re extremely excited for you all to get your hands on the game, and see all of your lands and unicorns up close and in the game world. We’re in the final stretch of getting everything deployed and ready to go. We’ll be releasing the game later today. We’ll post on Discord and Twitter once the game is live and shortly after that our website will update with a link to play the game. While you wait, we have a handy-dandy guide that we’ve created to help you out. Here is the Crypto Unicorns Game Guide. Definitely check out the Getting Started section to help you prepare for the game! Remember, this is just the beginning… We have lots of upcoming improvements, features and updates planned, and we’ll give you more info on the roadmap in the near future! For now, the team will be working hard to make sure any issues that arise get resolved and will be focused on closing out the remaining priorities. Of course, we also want to give our dev team a brief respite since they’ve been all hands on deck for a while now, so please be patient with the game, help each other out if you can, and please do report any bugs or issues that you find! To compensate for the fact that you won’t be able to evolve your babies right away, we’ll be boosting the land rewards. We’ll be releasing an update about that tomorrow. Summer of Love In the meantime, we’re kicking off the Summer Of Love! We know you are ready to breed your unicorns and create all sorts of new, beautiful unicorn babies (please send baby pics, especially those mythics ), so we want to reward you all for growing our family of Unicorns. The Summer of Love event will consist of 3 monthly milestone events and a season-long Leaderboard! Points earned during each monthly milestone event will be accumulated on the Summer of Love Leaderboard, which will span those 3 months. Monthly milestone rewards will be distributed at the end of each month. Please note! The Leaderboard and Milestones are not yet visible on the website, but we’ll start counting the points from the launch of the game today. We’ll get the website updated next week, until then you can keep track of how many points you have by referencing the numbers below. Milestone Events Each milestone event will have multiple event tasks and 5 milestones. Players can earn points and rewards by completing the required tasks. At the end of each milestone event, milestone progress will be reset and players will be sent rewards based on the number of milestones they completed during the event. Hello! Today, let’s learn a bit about the Rainbow Marketplace, which is the economic hub of Crypto Unicorns, and the place where players can buy and sell a variety of in-game items, including seeds, berries, crafting materials, and boosters, in exchange for RBW Tokens! The Marketplace will serve as an important place for our players: This is where you will be able to buy seeds, crafting materials, and boosters you can use to make your land and farms more productive. This is where you earn RBW from selling items that you have produced, such as berries or crafted materials, or items you no longer need. The general market dictates the prices over time. Savvy players can predict what the market will do and make profitable trades, just like a real-world stock market. Let’s see your inner trader! The Rainbow Marketplace is built as an AMM, or Automated Market Maker, functioning like Uniswap, the popular decentralized exchange. This means that, once setup, our Marketplace will be able to continuously offer fair, updated prices for a variety of items, automatically, with little to no human management. How Does the Marketplace work? Since it is an AMM, each item (bundle) available will have a separate Liquidity Pool (LP), where it is paired with RBW. At launch, each LP will be supplied with a starting amount of the item and RBW Tokens from the Treasury. This will serve as the initial liquidity for anyone who wants to buy or sell that item. Over time, the price of the various items will be adjusted by the community’s buying and selling activity. Because it is an AMM, the price of an item is always algorithmically calculated based on the supply in the LP. Similar to Uniswap, we are using a “Constant Product Function” for our AMM. To put it simply, this function means that as an item is sold in the Marketplace, the price of the item goes down, and as the item is purchased, the price goes up. Asset Quantities in a Constant Product Function LP The shape of the curve (see the hyperbola above) is designed to ensure there is liquidity at any quantity. Follow this link to read more about Constant Product Functions. 1% Market Fee: Whenever a player buys an item, there will be a 1% fee that will be collected and put towards the Treasury, which will go to ensure that the Marketplace continues to provide RBW for the long-term future! Slippage: Because this AMM is just like Uniswap and other DEXs, there is also the possibility of “slippage” in a transaction. Before completing a transaction, you will clearly see the maximum slippage allowed. You will need an available Unicorn to Sell in the Marketplace A Unicorn is required: In order to sell your items to the Marketplace, you will need to haul your goods to the market with a Unicorn! Your unicorn will be busy for 8 hours before they are available for other tasks. Daily Bundles: It’s important to note that the Daily Bundles that were mentioned in the Whitepaper are not currently planned for the Rainbow Marketplace. Instead, items will persist in the Marketplace continuously, and prices will change over time. New Items and other Changes Over time, the team may continue to make adjustments to LPs, market fees, or add or remove items from the Marketplace, as we continue to tune the game balance and evolve the game. Hello Frens! UNIM is the lifeblood of the game–literally! We all know that UNIM’s primary sink is in breeding and evolution but did you know that UNIM is used in other parts of the Crypto Unicorns world? Workshops require a ton of UNIM to craft the most advanced items, boosters, keystones, and more! Let’s dive into how UNIM plays a part in Crafting! Crafting While the more basic crafting items do not cost UNIM to craft, more advanced material crafting recipes will have a small UNIM cost in addition to their item and time costs. While no one crafting item will cost more than 100 UNIM to craft at launch, the amount of crafting items you will need between upgrading buildings, crafting boosters, and crafting keystones is very high. Building Upgrades When the game launches, there will be up to 5 buildings that players can build and upgrade on each land: the Cart, Nursery, Workshop, Stables, and multiple Farms. At launch, each of these buildings can be upgraded to Level 10. Upgrading a building will be inexpensive at first, but as you get higher in levels, the quality of items required and their quantity will increase. It will take several hundred materials to get one Cart from Level 1 to Level 10 on one land. The UNIM cost of crafting all these materials just to get the Cart from Level 1 to Level 10 alone will be close to 100,000 UNIM. And that is just one cart on one land. And you will want to upgrade your carts to level 10. Each cart has 3 Gathering slots, with the third slot unlocking at Cart Level 10. To maximize the earning potential of your land, you will always want a level 10 Cart with three adult Unicorns gathering per land. Speaking of Gathering, crafting items can also be earned when you use your Unicorns to gather. Which items you get from Gathering is random though, and some of the more advanced items aren’t available from gathering. So while getting crafting items through gathering will reduce the total UNIM spent on crafting items, you will still need a large amount of UNIM to fully upgrade all buildings and all lands. Boosters Boosters are items that will greatly assist you in trying to breed Unicorns with better stats. Breeding Boosters will increase the chance of Parts from Parents being passed down. Evolution Boosters will increase the chance of genes upgrading during Evolution. Players who want Unicorns with the best stats, or to try to get a Mythic Unicorn, will want to use the highest tier of Booster during Hatching and Evolving. Boosters can be crafted in the Workshop. The UNIM cost of Boosters starts out low at Tier 1 but gets into 5 figures for Tier 6 Boosters. Besides the UNIM cost to craft the Booster itself, you will also need other crafting items, most of which will cost UNIM to craft themselves. Look at Breeding Boosters, for example: Tier 1 Breeding Booster: 100 UNIM + 3 Giggle Shards (225 UNIM) + 3 Gold Dusts (225 UNIM) + 3 Dewdrops (225 UNIM) for a total of 775 UNIM Tier 2 Breeding Booster: 300 UNIM + Tier 1 Breeding Booster (775 UNIM) + 5 Moondusts (375 UNIM) + 5 Gem Pebbles (375 UNIM) for a total of 1825 UNIM Tier 3 Breeding Booster: 600 UNIM + Tier 2 Breeding Booster (1825 UNIM) + 10 Pollen Powder (750 UNIM) + 10 Sugar Sprinkles (750 UNIM) for a total of 3925 UNIM Tier 4 Breeding Booster: 1000 UNIM + Tier 3 Breeding Booster (3925 UNIM) + 3 Fun Fragments (1605 UNIM) + 3 Leprechaun Dubloons (1605 UNIM) for a total of 8135 UNIM Tier 5 Breeding Booster: 3000 UNIM + Tier 4 Breeding Booster (8135 UNIM) + 5 Polished Gemstones (2675 UNIM) + 5 Powerpacks (2675 UNIM) for a total of 16485 UNIM Tier 6 Breeding Booster: 10000 UNIM + Tier 5 Breeding Booster (16485 UNIM) + 3 Steaming Pizzas (6405 UNIM) + 3 Vibrant BLooms (6405 UNIM) for a total of 39295 UNIM The high cost for the best boosters is necessary since high-stat Unicorns will be more competitive in stat-based gameplay like Racing/Jousting. And just like building materials, Gathering rewards can give out crafting items used for Boosters (as well as a tiny chance at low tier boosters). Boosters are meant to be a continuous UNIM sink as long as Players try to optimize their Unicorns. Keystones Shortly after launch, we’ll be releasing the Land Vending Machine. This will let players purchase Land NFTs from the remaining stock at will. All the Player will need is the required ETH and a Keystone NFT that matches the land they are trying to buy. Keystone NFTs are craftable in the Workshop and will require a lot of UNIM and other crafting items. Just like Buildings and Boosters, the UNIM required to craft items needed to craft Keystone NFTs will take a lot of UNIM. The amount of UNIM, crafting items, and NFTs required to craft keystones depends on the type of Land you want to purchase. Common Keystones: (such as a Cloud Common Land Keystone): 500 UNIM + 5 Dew Drops (375 UNIM) + 3 Cirrus Flakes (1605 UNIM) + 1 Ice Cubes (2135 UNIM) for a total of 4615 UNIM Rare Keystones: (such as a Light Rare Land Keystone): 2500 UNIM + 1 Cloud Keystone NFT (4615 UNIM) + 1 Heart Keystone NFT (4615 UNIM) + 1 Rainbow Keystone NFT (4615 UNIM) for a total of 16345 UNIM Mythic Keystones: 10000 UNIM + 1 Light Keystone NFT (16345 UNIM) + 1 Wonder Keystone NFT (16345 UNIM) + 1 Mystery Keystone NFT (16345 UNIM) for a total of 59035 UNIM If you are planning to expand your lands, you’ll need plenty of UNIM to pay to craft Keystones! The point of this blog post isn’t to dangle high UNIM costs in front of you. Yes, these costs are high, but they are meant to be, as new ways of earning UNIM will come out after the game launch, including Racing, Jousting, PvE, Neighborhoods, Shadowcorns Acts II and III, and more! And just as new sources of UNIM come out, so too will new sources of UNIM sinks: Decorations, Entry fees into special Races and Jousting Tournaments, Neighborhood upgrade costs, Shadowcorn hatching and upgrades, Unicorn Equipment NFTs to be used in PvE Battle, etc. The Laguna Games team will do our best to keep the value up and maintain the earning aspect of the game by balancing the UNIM sources and sinks of features as they get implemented into the game. This is why UNIM should be valued for its in-game utility rather than as a token to be speculated on. Governance — Phase 1 Fellow Unicorns, As we approach the launch of our governance system, it’s important to outline the initial structure as well as how we expect it to evolve. This new method of governance brings with it numerous challenges and opportunities. Ultimately, there is no roadmap for building a successful DAO. We can only look at other Web3 projects and learn together as we collectively experiment with these new mechanisms for human coordination. Upfront we acknowledge that Laguna Games, Inc. which created the Crypto Unicorns DAO & IP is a centralized entity. Our mission is to incept, grow and manage community-run Interactive Entertainment DAOs with Crypto Unicorns being our first! In short, the DAO is our product. The path to victory lies in decentralizing over the next several years as outlined in our Whitepaper. We also acknowledge the nascent nature of DAOs. They’ve existed for less than a decade and seek to reformat how we interact and coordinate as a global society of self-sovereign individuals. It’s a lofty goal that will take extreme amounts of iteration and evolution. The current Cambrian explosion of use cases and structures is fascinating to watch in real-time. We hope to learn and grow as we see what governance mechanisms work most over the coming years. Without further ado, let’s dive into our initial Governance Structure! To start, we are launching https://forum.cryptounicorns.fun/ which will be the hub for all governance discussions. We’ve created the following three categories: Ideas - This is where the proposal process begins! Anyone is free to post a topic to the ideas thread. An idea doesn’t have to follow the official proposal format and can be much more free form. The goal is to take the best ideas and produce draft proposals. Draft Proposals - When an idea is ready to be proposed a Draft Proposal should be written. All drafts must be approved by our CM team. We ask that people use the following format so all proposals have a similar structure - Name — Brief Name and CUIP-00X “Tag” Summary — Two or three sentences describing the proposal. Motivation — Describe to the community the reasoning behind why this proposal is necessary. Details — Dive into the specifics of what is being proposed. Conclusion — Outline the voting choices as well as any relevant details around cost and timelines. If the draft proposal has is divided in public opinion, we will run a Temperature Check Poll. The goal here is to get a gut check on whether or not this proposal is ready to go live. Live Proposals - Once a proposal has been approved for vote we will add it to the Live Proposals Category. Here we simply track the progress of the snapshot voting process as well as the results. In Progress Pass Fail While the discourse around proposals is contained on the forum site we will be using Snapshot for our official voting process. The official Snapshot site is launching on April 7th. Here’s what you need to know: When a proposal is ready to go live we will submit it to Snapshot where it will be live for a 5 day period. Any individual who has staked their RBW prior to a vote starting may participate in governance by voting with their sRBW. 1 sRBW = 1 vote For a proposal to pass it must meet a quorum of 33% of sRBW. Once the voting period is ended we will record the results in the Live Proposals section and begin the process of implementation. This is just the beginning frenz. Our hope is that together as a community we can refine and polish this experience to meet our collective needs over time. We view DAOs such as Gitcoin, Proof of Humanity, and Curve Finance as the north star. They have the highest level of sophistication and we intend to continue to iterate in their direction while looking out for other potential improvement vectors. One area that needs immediate attention is definition on the threshold for submitting a proposal to Snapshot for an official vote. Some DAOs simply require a certain number of tokens to submit a proposal to Snapshot. Initially, only the LG team can submit a proposal to the snapshot. We think there is room to improve here and would like to implement a Governance Committee. This committee of elected community members would approve proposals for voting after the draft process. It is our plan to submit a draft of this proposal in the coming weeks. Lastly, we need to address the elephant in the room which is the team/investor tokens. While locked they are eligible to vote on proposals. This means that for the first few years we can collectively outvote the community. In the process of decentralization, it’s our belief that the creators of this IP and DAO (collectively the Laguna Games team) are in the best position to initially guide our Unicorn family forward. So far we’ve been on the same page with our wider community but this may not always be the case. The question we have to ask is what would cause us to vote against the community? Our hope is that iterative proposal development helps to give a voice to individuals as well as larger stakeholders within our ecosystem. Community members should expect to hear feedback from the LG core team throughout the proposal process. For example, we may love a suggestion but implementation would cause a delay of another feature. This way a decision can be made with the full context of our development roadmap. We would love to solicit ideas from our community on both proposal topics as well as improvements we can make to the governance process. Oftentimes only a small minority of token holders vote on proposals consistently. Our goal is to maximize voter turnout and participation. Bound to the Dark Forest since the cataclysm the Shadowcorns have existed only as pure shadow beings. The Unicorn’s recent entrance into the Dark Forest to pillage and summon has awoken an ancient enemy… It’s going to take some time to manifest Shadowcorns into their corporeal form! Since they are not breedable we won’t be using parts. Instead, we want to make each class and rarity look awesome as a standalone Shadowcorn. Keep an eye out for sneak peeks in Discord! Act II will appear in three different phases. First, the Shadowcorns will hatch, next will be a staking event for Shadowcorns, and lastly there will be an on-chain minigame where Unicorns will explore the forest to continue to loot its riches and the Shadowcorns will work to keep those resources for themselves. We plan to start Act II in Q2 with Shadowcorn Hatching! Now onto the details… Phase 1 — Shadowcorn Hatching Shadowcorn Egg holders will bring the eggs back to the Altar, spend UNIM & RBW to hatch them, and see what kind of Shadowcorn emerges! We will have 5 Shadowcorn classes: Hot-headed and brash, Fire Shadowcorns are prone to eruptions and are dangerous to anyone nearby when they do! Creepy and often gross, Slime Shadowcorns are known by their telltale ichor, whether it causes corrosion, poison, or is just plain sticky! Enigmatic, terrifying, and dangerous, Volt Shadowcorns are known to be calculating and ruthless when dealing with intruding Unicorns. Frighteningly quick-witted and able to plot their moves well in advance of rivals, Soul Shadowcorns are cunning, manipulative masterminds. The most mysterious and enigmatic of all Shadowcorns, little is known about Nebula Shadowcorns other than they are reclusive and prefer to be left alone, becoming quite dangerous if pestered. Upon hatching, your Shadowcorn will roll for its class and traits (the Tier is set by the egg). The Class will be rolled first, then it will roll for traits. Once the Traits are decided, the base stats the Shadowcorn has are modified based on Trait bonuses. Lastly, the new stats of the Shadowcorn are modified by the Shadowcorn’s rarity. This completes the Shadowcorn creation! Bask in the beauty of your newly formed Shadowcorn! Phase 2 — Shadowcorn Staking Event After Shadowcorns are hatched, they will be able to enter the Dark Forest and collect valuable resources for themselves. Players will stake them to the Dark Forest to earn resources that will help in Act III. It will function similarly to the Dark Forest staking event we’ve already run. Phase 3 Dark Forest Map — On Chain Mini-Game The Dark Forest is much larger than the Unicorns realized, the area that they explored was just a small portion of the whole forest. Since the Shadowcorns are guarding the Dark Forest it won’t be so easy to gather precious resources… Unicorns will have to band together to explore the Dark Forest and Shadowcorns will have to work against the Unicorns to protect and claim the resources for themselves. The Unicorns will stake together on parts of the Dark Forest to reveal its secrets. The Forest will be split into sections, the ones available to explore will be covered in Fog and need to be cleared before rewards can be earned. Shadowcorns will also stake on these sections of the Dark Forest to protect the resources from the greedy Unicorns and will compete for those same resources. Think of it as a game of tug of war! Once all the sections have been cleared and the rewards claimed, the Dark Forest will be done and Act II will be complete! Act III To give you all a taste of what we have planned for Act III…Shadowcorns will finally enter the game world and cause all sorts of mischief! They will produce minions, terrorize and hunt Unicorns for souls, and raid the Unicorn world. Crafting Minion NFTs — Shadowcorns will be able to craft minion NFTs that can be sent into the game world to wreak havoc. The Unicorns will have to rally together to protect their lands! Shadowcorn Ascension — In order for Shadowcorns to ascend and grow into their glorious final forms, they will need to consume (burn) Unicorns. Raids — In-game events where Unicorns go up against Shadowcorns and their Minions. We are incredibly excited to proceed forward with this roadmap over the course of this year. We will have 5 Shadowcorn classes: Hot-headed and brash, Fire Shadowcorns are prone to eruptions and are dangerous to anyone nearby when they do!Creepy and often gross, Slime Shadowcorns are known by their telltale ichor, whether it causes corrosion, poison, or is just plain sticky!Enigmatic, terrifying, and dangerous, Volt Shadowcorns are known to be calculating and ruthless when dealing with intruding Unicorns.Frighteningly quick-witted and able to plot their moves well in advance of rivals, Soul Shadowcorns are cunning, manipulative masterminds.The most mysterious and enigmatic of all Shadowcorns, little is known about Nebula Shadowcorns other than they are reclusive and prefer to be left alone, becoming quite dangerous if pestered.Upon hatching, your Shadowcorn will roll for its class and traits (the Tier is set by the egg). The Class will be rolled first, then it will roll for traits. Once the Traits are decided, the base stats the Shadowcorn has are modified based on Trait bonuses. Lastly, the new stats of the Shadowcorn are modified by the Shadowcorn’s rarity. This completes the Shadowcorn creation! Bask in the beauty of your newly formed Shadowcorn! Phase 2 — Shadowcorn Staking Event After Shadowcorns are hatched, they will be able to enter the Dark Forest and collect valuable resources for themselves. Players will stake them to the Dark Forest to earn resources that will help in Act III. It will function similarly to the Dark Forest staking event we’ve already run. Phase 3 Dark Forest Map — On Chain Mini-Game The Dark Forest is much larger than the Unicorns realized, the area that they explored was just a small portion of the whole forest. Since the Shadowcorns are guarding the Dark Forest it won’t be so easy to gather precious resources… Unicorns will have to band together to explore the Dark Forest and Shadowcorns will have to work against the Unicorns to protect and claim the resources for themselves. The Unicorns will stake together on parts of the Dark Forest to reveal its secrets. The Forest will be split into sections, the ones available to explore will be covered in Fog and need to be cleared before rewards can be earned. Shadowcorns will also stake on these sections of the Dark Forest to protect the resources from the greedy Unicorns and will compete for those same resources. Think of it as a game of tug of war! Once all the sections have been cleared and the rewards claimed, the Dark Forest will be done and Act II will be complete! Act IIITo give you all a taste of what we have planned for Act III…Shadowcorns will finally enter the game world and cause all sorts of mischief! They will produce minions, terrorize and hunt Unicorns for souls, and raid the Unicorn world. Crafting Minion NFTs — Shadowcorns will be able to craft minion NFTs that can be sent into the game world to wreak havoc. The Unicorns will have to rally together to protect their lands! Shadowcorn Ascension — In order for Shadowcorns to ascend and grow into their glorious final forms, they will need to consume (burn) Unicorns. Yes I am an adult. Yes I am writing a in-depth report on Unicorns and Rainbows. Please don’t judge me. But in all seriousness, Crypto Unicorns is a GameFi project that has piqued my interest and could become one of the most popular crypto games of 2022. Let’s dive in! Dracula The Unicorn What is Crypto Unicorns? Crypto Unicorns at its core is a digital pet collecting and farming game built on the Polygon network. The gameplay centers around unique Unicorn NFTs which players can utilize in a farming simulation as well as Battle Loops including Jousting, Racing, and Team RPG. You can currently purchase the Unicorns on Opensea. NFT Collection on Opensea Every NFT has its own specific trait and ability that evolves as the unicorn grows. There were 10,000 genesis eggs that were sold in a pre-sale and later hatched into unicorns. These unicorns can be bred up to a total of 8 times and the breeding process costs unicorn milk, rainbow tokens, and normal berries. The Unicorn Evolution Process When two adult unicorns are bred, the genes of the parents can be passed down to the newly-created Unicorn egg NFT. These genes are separated into three types: Major Genes: These genes have the highest chance of being passed down. Normal Genes: These genes have a lower chance to be passed down than Major Genes, but a higher chance than Minor Genes. Minor Genes: These genes have the lowest chance to be passed down. There is an entire breakdown of the various genes and classes each Unicorn can possess, which you can find in the whitepaper. Farming gameplay involves players purchasing Land NFTs. Individual land can be combined by players into neighborhoods designed for multi-player and social gameplay. Land NFTs Types There are three types of “farms” that are available: Basic Farms: Produce Normal Berries and a chance at producing one specific Class Berry. Rare Farms: Produce Normal Berries and a chance at producing one specific Class Berry from a specific Class Group. Mythic Farms: Produce Normal Berries and a chance at producing one of any of the Class Berries. There are also four key features to each farm: Farm Slots: Where Players can grow Class Berries over time, which are used for crafting. Workshop: Where Players can produce materials over time and for soft resources, and then craft advanced materials with more basic materials. Nursery: Where Unicorns breed/evolve and new unicorns are born. Stables: Where a Player can see all their Unicorn NFTs as well as in the future make things like parties, etc. when there is gameplay that requires groups of Unicorns. Upgrading the Stables increases Unicorn Energy recovery. Crypto Unicorns Team Laguna Games is the team behind Crypto Unicorns and they have an impressive track record. Their team has experience at AAA studios such as Activision Blizzard, Lucas Arts, EA, and more. Laguna Games Team Experience It is also nice to see a crypto team that is using their real identities while building. My newsletter issue last week showed the potential dangers of an anonymous development team. The CEO and co-founder of Laguna Games Aron Beierschmitt is a veteran in the mobile gaming industry and has a good feel for what the future of crypto gaming has to offer. You can listen to this podcast episode to hear Aron talk more in-depth about Crypto Unicorns. It is also important to note that Laguna Games is backed by big-name Venture Capital companies such as Delphi Digital and Polygon Studios, which helps build confidence in Laguna Games’ future. Backers of Laguna Games Rainbow Token ($RBW) Rainbow Tokens (RBW) are the Governance Token for the Unicorn metaverse. RBW holders will be able to utilize these tokens in a variety of ways including Unicorn Evolution and Breeding, Staking to vote on key governance decisions and Treasury management. There is a total supply of 1 billion tokens with an initial circulating supply of 200 million tokens. Here is a breakdown of the token supply distribution. RBW Token Distribution The token release schedule is laid out until February of 2026. RBW Token Release Schedule As a certified DeFi degenerate, I like the distinction Crypto Unicorns is making regarding their Play AND Earn gameplay mechanics. Most GameFi projects focus on play TO earn mechanics, meaning you have to play the game and grind for hours on end in order to be rewarded. This model isn’t sustainable considering the lifespan for most video games doesn’t last longer than 12 months. Players will have a number of ways to Play and Earn in Crypto Unicorns including: Harvesting Class Berries and Selling them on the Market Crafting Breeding, Evolution, and Building Materials and selling them on the Market. Harvesting and Crafting Upgrade Materials Entering Race Events Entering Jousting Events and Tournaments PvE and PvP Battle The team understands that “play to earn” can only be one component of a sustainable game economy. According to their whitepaper: Our primary goal is the development of fun and compelling gaming experiences and we expect to see a large portion of players consuming purely for enjoyment. Why I am Bullish The following primary reasons make me bullish on the outlook of Crypto Unicorns: Strong development team Reasonable Tokenomics A unique approach to GameFi mechanics I also like that Crypto Unicorns is EVM compatible and plans on being chain agnostic. The future of crypto gaming and the metaverse will be cross-chain, so having a plan in place to integrate across multiple chains is crucial. Crypto Unicorns is Chain Agnostic Finally, I love that Laguna Games is giving very generous ownership rights to NFT holders. Here is a look at their ownership terms listed on the whitepaper. NFT Rights & Ownership This will allow more freedom for users to show off and market their NFTs and it is a win-win for both NFT holders and Laguna Games. Potential Concerns The biggest concern I have is simply that we have yet to see the gameplay of the project. According to the roadmap, the MVP game launch is this month, so that will give us a better idea of what the game will look like. Crypto Unicorns Roadmap There is always a possibility that the mechanics will turn out to be bad, boring, or even broken. However, based on the reputation and backing of Laguna Games, I don’t think that will be the case. There is also always the question of longevity when it comes to gaming. Even if the launch does go well, and the game is incredibly popular, the crypto space moves fast and Laguna Games will need to make sure they are 100% committed to the continued development of the game mechanics to ensure users stay engaged. The roadmap only lists out plans up to the end of this year, so it is uncertain what they have planned for next year and beyond. The idea of longevity is not a knock against Crypto Unicorns in particular, but it is the reality for all of crypto gaming and just something you need to keep in mind as an investor before you put your money into any GameFi project. Conclusion The bottom line is Crypto Unicorns is a unique project in the GameFi space that you absolutely should keep your eye on. The upcoming MVP game launch will give us a better understanding of the potential for the project, but things are looking promising at this point and time. The Next P2E Unicorn, Will Be Crypto Unicorns https://www.cryptounicorns.fun/ Disclosure — This is not financial advice and please do not use this as your only “research”, but as perhaps PART of your research. I currently own genesis unicorns, land plots $UNIM and $RBW — it is in my interest for this game to succeed from owning these tokens. This thread is not being paid for or sponsored by Crypto Unicorns (CU), I just wanted to share my thoughts about an upcoming game that I am excited for. Quick TL;DR history lesson for the project (this is NOT everything) 10k Unicorns currently exist, across 6 different species — some have Mythic parts (most rare) — Players will breed to create new Unicorns 30k land plots currently exist — 1 million will exist in total, but these will be acquired in game by players then these can be bought and sold $UNIM was minted through the Dark Forest and staking your Unicorns. This mini-game just finished and we are unsure if/how more $UNIM will mint before the game launches. This $UNIM could be used to receive Shadowcorn Eggs (the PVE characters in CU) $RBW was airdropped to holders and strong community members. $RBW was also sold publicly through a balancing liquidity pool. $RBW currently has staking at 1 month intervals, up to 12 months, with bonus for length of stake. That is a very brief TL;DR to how we got to today, but I want to discuss the future more than I want to discuss the past. In order to understand my thoughts, I encourage everyone to read their whitepaper V2, V1 is available to see the changes made (this is important transparency) Overview Crypto Unicorns Whitepaper V2 Why Do I LOVE the UNICORNS? Centralized Rainbow Marketplace In Game Market Rainbow token marketplace has been described as a peer2peer marketplace set to a bonding curve. After hearing the team talk about it, I do not think this description describes it appropriately. Essentially, there will be unique bundles of items and berries in the market each day. Players can buy or sell a given asset. More buys = price goes up, More sellers = price goes down. This could be linear or exponential, either way, it creates parity and incentive to drive utility to all types of materials. Example: Say all berries start at 5 RBW. 10 people buy Cloud berries to boost Cloud Unicorns at 5 RBW each. These berries become more expensive in the marketplace to 7 RBW. In order to buy the Cloud berries a few buyers had to sell Flower and Candy berries and those berries are now 4 RBW. Say I farmed Cloud berries and was going to use them to breed, but instead, I can go sell these at a premium of 7 RBW and go buy Candy berries at 4 RBW. This nets me 3 RBW of profit and I still have berries to use to boost today or save for a different day. Why this is important: I would describe the marketplace as a centralized liquidity pool that uses supply and demand to help set price for the market. Say all classes are being bred but Moon is being ignored. The team can lower the price of Moon berries to try and incentivize buying behaviors and encourage players to breed Moon class Unicorns. “But isn’t centralization bad?” In some scenarios, yes centralization is bad, but this marketplace model will allow the team full flexibility to balance the game while it is in Alpha. Also — the player owns all of their in game assets and can always sell for $RBW in the marketplace. $RBW is an on chain token that can be converted to fiat or other tokens. This means ALL ITEMS ARE LIQUID — this should prevent item dumping and low ball short sellers. Now, this also means it is not a FREE MARKET. I am not thrilled about this in the long run, but in the short term, it is GENIUS. Rainbow Marketplace only takes $RBW! That is right folks — the governance token is the currency. Brief $RBW Tokenomics update: They began with 5% (50 million) of $RBW being released via Public Sale and Airdrop. They then began staking which has been slowly releasing more $RBW. There will be 1 billion tokens max and these are governance tokens for the DAO of CU. Allocation and Unlock Schedule So — this token has a LOT of utility across the game: Staking Voting Currency Breeding Entry Fees to P2E This token will be used EVERYWHERE and easily accessible to all players. I do see value in short term increasing because there will be a lot of demand from all areas of the game. The total amount of tokens in market will be 200 million by March of 2023, but some will be staked and some will be locked in the treasury. Either way, I am excited for the future of $RBW. Utility and LEVERS! Above we laid out what $RBW can be used for. But there are a lot of levers that can be pulled to stabilize $UNIM and $RBW. At launch, April 11th, if you own land and 2 unicorns, you will be able to do the following: https://whitepaper.cryptounicorns.fun/crypto-unicorns-whitepaper-v2/gameplay/land-gameplay At the core you can work the land to upgrade the land, likely requiring $RBW and $UNIM to upgrade. You can farm berries that can be sold to the marketplace or used on breeding. As your land is leveled up, your land can hold more unicorns, which lets you do more activities. Gathering cart is a version of sending your unicorns on a quest, likely acting like a timed staking mechanism. These unicorns will return with $RBW, $UNIM, materials and items. The workshop can craft items from materials and can then use these items to sell at the marketplace or use in breeding/upgrading. One item in particular is a keystone which will be needed to acquire new land! There is currently only 30k land plots in the world, but there will be 1 million plots in the end. There will be a LOT of $UNIM burned and $RBW sent to the treasury to grow to 1 million plots. Nursery is for breeding and Stables can be upgraded to hold more Unicorns on the individual plot. A key point to levers is the marketplace is relatively centralized but liquid, which means there is control in the early days to prevent disarray in the overall economy. I do not think the marketplace will always be this way, but in the early days, I think it will really help stabilize the economy. HODL Rewards?! Crypto Unicorns has begun rewarding individuals who hold $RBW and $UNIM in two different ways. During the first year there is a leaderboard for how much and how long you stake $RBW. You are already seeing an APR over 50% for staking, so this is just a cherry on top. For $UNIM each “season” you are rewarded on a leaderboard for holding a large quantity of $UNIM. This may sound small, but these are great ways to drive value to holders for simply holding onto a token versus selling. These rewards are not going to make you rich, but its a really nice touch to help reward collecting and holding, even if its just a token. I expect many other games will begin to copy this! A Web2 Game With NFTs In my opinion, CU has a great chance at success because they are one of the first teams transitioning from Web2 games to Web3. This means they understand the game development side and have had time to learn the Web 3 side. They utilize NFTs through an airlock system which moves them off chain and in game, and when you transfer them back on chain, all upgrades are detailed in the NFT. An example of this is Land, which is all level 1, you could level your land to level 5 and sell it at a premium on Opensea. Overall — I think CU will act a LOT like an off-chain game when playing it and that makes me very excited for its future. Breeding and new land plots will be controlled by the end user, but because certain parts of the game are centralized, the team can continue to incentivize actions they want to occur. For example, they want more breeding, hold a breeding event, rewarding $RBW or $UNIM for most breeds or first to breed a 4 part Mythic. If they want less breeding, ramp up the holding rewards or add rewards to leveling up the land or craft materials. Future Risks Even though I am invested and a big believer in CU, I want to present some concerns that could arise in the short/medium term. Triggers can be pulled, but if people do not change their behaviors, then the economy can become unbalanced. Also — if levers are pulled, players may be upset if they just had to spend 3000 UNIM to breed, and now it costs 1500 UNIM for the sale breed. They will not be able to please everyone, but if this happens continuously, people may stop participating New Users — The game at launch is much more farmville, than competitive jousting/racing game. The game will need new users to see growth. I believe a rental system will be created, but scholars are not a sustainable solution in most games. I do like that their market is centralized, but may not be able to prevent over farming if it leads to over population of unicorns, as that market is free. I will watch for when they create a unicorn burn mechanism. Free Market Imbalance — Land and Unicorns are in an open market. If there is too much ROI in game, we will see large guilds of scholars inflow with money. This will create major buy pressure and create very high entry points for everyone. Unfortunately, if this happens, there is not much CU can do, but it may lead to disappointed players. DELAYS! — the game at launch is a great MVP, probably even better than most MVPs, but without development into a full fledged game can cause players to seek other options. 2022 will have a few strong games launch, but 2023 we will see a LOT of new games competing for web 3 gamers eye balls and wallets. CU is in a great position, early enough, to start growing a strong user base, but hitting deadlines and growing the final product will be paramount to their success. We’ve partnered with the incredible Vault, Inc team to make this a reality much sooner than we had originally expected. Without further ado, here’s how everything is going to work: The Staking Dashboard goes live on February 28th @ 11pm UTC right as our Copper Launch auction kicks off! Players will be able to begin staking RBW immediately to begin receiving additional RBW rewards. The amount of RBW rewards are tied directly to the length of time an individual staker is willing to lock their RBW. RBW to sRBW Conversion Examples - Staking rewards (RBW) are distributed to holders of sRBW daily. As a result, players with longer time horizons will earn more staking rewards and have an outsized vote on governance decisions.
